Arndale Centre Manchester- Concrete Crushing Case Study
This complex selective demolition project required the removal of stairs, walls, beams and slabs in the heart of the Arndale Shopping complex, Manchester.
Why BROKK proved the ideal choice for this demolition project
Being in the midst of a large shopping and office complex, this demolition project had to be carried out so as to cause the minimum of disruption to surrounding shops, local businesses and the general public.
Gnat’s electric powered Brokk 330’s were chosen for the project- the lack of any diesel fumes were a necessity on this job. Because of noise constraints, the BROKK 330 was fitted with a CC560 concrete crusher. This powerful hydraulically powered attachment reduced vibration, both for the machine's remote operator and for the occupants of the surrounding offices.
Its four sets of hydraulic rams transfer the total available force right along the boom, delivering outstanding strength even at the maximum 7m reach and ensuring the 52-tonne capacity cruncher wrecked only the designated areas whilst leaving the adjacent infrastructure intact.
"The BROKK has three times the crunching power of a conventional excavator," estimates Nick Turnbull, GNAT UK’s MD. "Or, to put it another way, the only other demolition machine capable of completing this job in the timescale would have to have been double the height and width of ours and therefore totally impractical- too heavy for the floor loading and too cumbersome to access the area and manouevre in the confined space."
