Concrete Works Rugby- Removal of reinforced concrete plinths

This project required the safe removal of a series of formidable reinforced concrete plinths which had served to support the processing conveyor system of a Concrete Manufacturing Plant

Operating Space

The plinths occupied the bulk of the floor area, leaving little room to manoeuvre and a confined and inaccessible working area.

Safety

The proximity of the plinths to the infrastructure of the building ruled out the use of conventional explosives, as risk of damage by fly rock or shockwaves was possible.

Solution

Rockchop capsules were used to fracture the main body of the plinths. The resultant fragmentation greatly enhanced the effectiveness and speed with which the plinths could be broken up and re-bars removed.
