Concrete Scabblers

Concrete scabblers are mechanical tools used to remove concrete, coatings, and surface contaminants from concrete structures. They are commonly used in construction, renovation, and maintenance projects where it is necessary to prepare the concrete surface for further treatment or repair

Scabblers operate by pounding or chipping the surface of the concrete using a series of hardened steel or tungsten carbide-tipped needles. These needles are typically mounted on a rotating drum or piston, which delivers rapid impacts to the concrete surface. The impact energy breaks up the concrete and removes the top layer, effectively scabbling or roughening the surface

The main purpose of scabbling is to create a rough texture on the concrete surface, which enhances adhesion between the existing concrete and new materials, such as overlays, coatings, or repair mortars. It also helps to remove deteriorated concrete, laitance (weak surface layer), and other contaminants that may hinder proper bonding or compromise the structural integrity of the concrete

It is important to note that scabbling generates significant noise, dust, and vibration. Therefore, appropriate safety measures - such as personal protective equipment (PPE), dust collection systems, and noise control measures, should be implemented when using scabblers to protect the operators and surrounding environment

  • Concrete Scabblers are ideally suited for the renovation of concrete surfaces, such as floors, walls etc.

  • The Scabblers Teeth remove old, damaged or excess concrete, leaving a surface with excellent adhesive properties

  • There is no risk of cracking when working on bridges or in tunnels

  • Compared to other methods, the Scabbler avoids problems that arise when water is used

  • In the process industry Scabbling is frequently used in the renovation of interior coating on cast linings and the removal of slag
