Leeds Factory Floor Refurbishment: HILTI Track Saws and Robotic Demolition

HILTI track saw cutting through reinforced concrete floor in a Leeds factory refurbishment

Refurbishment of a Leeds factory saw our HILTI track saws used to cut cleanly through selective areas of the concrete floors prior to our Husqvarna and Brokk demolition robots pecking out and removing the bulk concrete, in preparation for new concrete and rebar.

These powerful remotely operated 3-Phase electric robots punch well above their weight.

Combining track sawing with robotic demolition is the standard approach for selective floor-slab removal in a factory refurbishment. The track saw cuts the perimeter of each section to be removed, isolating it cleanly from the floor that's staying in place. The robot then breaks out the isolated bay — without any risk of cracking propagating into the retained floor.

For an electric Brokk or Husqvarna fleet specifically, indoor operation is straightforward: no exhaust, no diesel particulate, and noise levels low enough that the surrounding factory can often stay partly operational. The combined-method approach also gives the rebuild crew a clean substrate edge to work to — important when the new concrete needs to bond to the retained slab.

Related context: Mezzanine Floor Deconstruction for Warehouse Re-Modelling

Where existing structures are designated for refurbishment, GNAT UK specialises in internal and external concrete cutting to re-model interiors to facilitate new-use and conversion requirements.

In this example, the entire mezzanine floor required deconstructing to facilitate new warehouse requirements for high-rise shelving and storage. Concrete cutting is an ideal procedure to facilitate the removal of redundant stairwells and floors to open up floor space.

Our electric floor saws are shown here, cutting sections of reinforced concrete flooring. Following this, our Husqvarna Robots with Hydraulic Peckers deconstructed the isolated sections in preparation for refurbishment and re-modelling.
